JERRY BERGER
Strategic Communicator
About
I am a strategic communicator with expertise in public relations, media relations, crisis management and social media. Trained as a journalist, I have reported from the Massachusetts Statehouse, taught future journalists and worked within state government. My health care experience includes managing crisis communications at a Boston hospital in the aftermath of the Boston Marathon bombing. My freelance reporting has appeared in Columbia Journalism Review and I have been a frequent commentator on Massachusetts government and politics.
As Director of Media Relations at a Harvard Medical School teaching hospital I served as chief spokesperson and led a team that expanded from traditional press release and TV pitches to include staff-produced video and social media.
I was recognized for my accomplishments with a Sloane Fellowship, an internal executive leadership-training program that stretched my horizons by working on non-communications-related projects.
After the Marathon, I was called upon to share our experiences with audiences ranging from the Public Relations Society of America International Conference to the Utah Public Information Officers annual conference.
